A recent Wall Street Journal article titled “Pushing High Heels to the Limit” features shoe maker Sergio Russo in a fascinating description of the art of creating the world’s highest quality footwear. The process requires 110 steps for one pair and takes into account things like plumb lines, lasts, shanks and toe boxes (seriously). Because of the deeply involved process, Russo creates the world’s most famous shoes for the likes of Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Armani, Prada and Gucci, to name a few. Each pair costs between $500 and several thousand dollars.
